Golf is art. Images and stories of sport at Palazzo Lanfranchi

Whether you are a lover of golf or not, the Pisan summer hosts an event worth living. Golf is art. Images and stories of sport, set up at Palazzo Lanfranchi from 1 July to 18 September, sheds an unprecedented light on this sport, loved in the world but also traditionally viewed with a certain diffidence.

Behind green fields dotted with holes, there is much more: a passion with an ancient history, which this exhibition intends to reveal. The Museum of Graphics, home to the exhibition, draws a fascinating path leading the visitor to discover the imaginary linked to golf, with forays into art and literature, tourism and fashion. Prints, drawings, posters and objects from the early modern age to the contemporary alternate, weaving a narrative plot of undoubted charm.

From seventeenth-century engravings to the famous cartoons by Charles Crombie (The Rules of Golf Illustrated, 1905), from nineteenth-century graphics to the tables of the great illustrators of the twentieth century, each step is a foray into the history of this extraordinary sport.

The exhibition is held on the occasion of the 50th edition of the City of Pisa Cup, an important event organized by the historic Tirrenia Golf Club, and will be open to visitors during the University World Golf Championships (20-23 July) organized by Cus Torino.
